BIOLOGY junior specialist
The University of California invites applications for a Junior
Specialist in the Department of Molecular, Cell and
Developmental Biology. Under the direction of the Principal
Investigator, the selected candidate will contribute to research to
understand the cellular mechanisms underlying synaptic
plasticity for brain development and learning. The selected
candidate will carry out molecular biology procedures such as
PCR, DNA cloning, plasmid isolation, and agarose gel
electrophoresis mouse colony management and genotyping
perform biochemical experiments such as protein purification,
western blotting, and cell fractionation sectioning and
immunofluorescence perform imaging acquisition and analysis
using fluorescence microscopy and handle animal behavioral
test, surgery procedures and in vivo virus work.
RANK Junior Specialist, Step 1
SALARY $34,680 annually, commensurate with qualifications
and experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree in cell and
molecular biology, biochemistry or neuroscience one-year
experience working in a biology research laboratory. Good
organizational, time management, and problem solving skills.
The abilities to perform tasks in a clean, organized, methodical
and analytical manner learn and apply a variety of new
techniques work accurately with interruptions and to meet
deadlines work well independently and as part of a research
team interact effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff
and students and demonstrate flexibility, initiative and good
judgment.
TERM OF APPOINTMENT Initial appointment is for one year.
Should the hiring unit propose reappointment, a review to assess
performance will be conducted. In addition, reappointment is
contingent upon availability of funding.
