The Division of Physical and Biological Sciences provides general
science education for all UCSC undergraduates, educates
undergraduate science and engineering majors, and maintains
research and graduate programs of national and international
stature. The division is comprised of departments and programs
of study, organized research units, instructional and research
programs to attract and retain a diverse population of students,
and a variety of support programs and facilities.  Physical and
Biological Sciences annual state budget is approximately $30
million with another $46 million of extramural research funding
excluding UCO Lick from over 100 different funding agencies,
currently supporting about 1800 employees  200 faculty, 250
staff, 500 academic student employees, 300
researchers/specialists/postdocs, 200 undergraduate student
employees, 130 courtesy appointments, and 200 volunteer
appointments.
PBSci Facilities staff members are responsible for planning,
construction, renovation, relocation, and general oversight of
approximately 470,000 assignable square feet in seven major
science buildings and 23 auxiliary facilities.
This position reports directly to the Physical and Biological
Sciences PBSci Sr. Analyst Project Manager, and works under the
direction of both the PBSci Sr. Analyst Project Manager and the
PBSci Health and Safety Advisor.  The PBSci Security and Safety
Coordinator will work with a high degree of independence and as
part of the PBSci Facilities team to provide administrative support
for the day-to-day facilities operations in the following areas
physical security, lab safety, injury and illness prevention,
ergonomic evaluation, and emergency preparedness.  The PBSci
Security Coordinator is required to follow, disseminate, and
reinforce campus and division security and safety policies and
procedures.
Qualifications include
Organizational skills sufficient to prioritize work and
complete assignments accurately, either independently or as part
of a team, under pressure of competing deadlines and with
frequent interruptions, working from own initiative and/or
following direction, policies, or procedures.
Ability to use analytical and decision-making skills to
offer options and resolve problems in a variety of contexts.
Demonstrated experience in analysis and planning
with ability to analyze and anticipate situations, define problems
and objectives, recognize alternatives and formulate solutions.
Ability to work in a flexible way that allows for
changes in assignments and priorities depending upon identified
needs of the unit.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with
the ability to act as a resource, provide customer service in a
courteous manner, and work effectively and clearly exchange
technical information with a diverse population
