The University Affiliated Research Center UARC located at NASA
Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA. is a partnership
between the University of California and NASA Ames. The UARC
was established to increase the safety, effectiveness, and
scientific impact of NASAs missions through the infusion of new
technologies and research knowledge. The UARCs primary
mission is to perform mission driven multi-disciplinary,
integrative research and technology development that supports
NASAs long term program requirements.
Ames Research Center is leading NASAs Space Synthetic Biology
project designed to conduct the research and development
required to enable exploration, advance science, and support a
variety of Earth-based applications including aeronautics and
driving miniaturization objectives.
The work site location for this position is at NASA Ames Research
Center, Moffett Field, Mountain View, CA.
Qualifications include
A minimum of a B.S. degree in biochemistry, molecular
biology, chemistry or a related field with substantial related
hands-on experience and a firm theoretical understanding of the
operational principles of gas chromatography techniques.
Experience and proficiency maintaining and utilizing HPLC
and FPLC equipment and instrument control software e.g.,
Varian WorkStation in a research environment.
Experience with hydrocarbon and amino acids analysis.
Excellent communication and problem solving skills and the
ability to work independently in a multi-disciplinary and high
throughput environment.
Ability, desire, and motivation to integrate skill set into a
dynamic research and development organization that includes
pioneering metabolic engineering of microorganisms and
cultivation from pilot-scale to large-scale product extraction,
chemical transformation and delivery of material to partners.
