UCSC Chemical Screening Center Junior Specialist
The University of California, Santa Cruz invites applications for a
Junior Specialist within the UCSC Chemical Screening Center
UCSC-CSC in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
The selected candidate will contribute to research by formatting
and archiving compound libraries, as well as running a series of
cytotoxicity assays in mammalian cells. The candidate will
interface directly with the Screening Center users aiding in
screen setup and performing high-throughput screens. The
selected candidate will be responsible in helping maintain
screening center hardware and assist in performing maintenance
on equipment. Interaction with faculty and numerous post-
doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate student researchers will
be common.
Additional responsibilities will include keeping current in
screening methods, maintaining an organized and efficient
center, maintaining complete and accurate records of user
activities for recharge purposes, documenting operating and
analytical procedures, and complying with safety and security
standards and procedures.
RANK Junior Specialist Step 1
SALARY $34,680 annual rate, prorated for 50% appointment
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A Bachelor of Science degree in
molecular biology or related field with experience in high-
throughput screening. Applicants must have experience
maintaining tissue culture cell-lines. Necessary demonstrable
skills also include the abilities to work well with faculty, staff
and students in an independent fashion be organized and
logical prioritize work-load be patient and focused under
deadline pressures and communicate well verbally and in
writing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Prior experience working with
bacteria and yeast cultures. Experience in high-content
fluorescent microscopy and high-throughput robotics.
Familiarity with image analysis software MetaMorph as well
clustering software Cluster3.0 and Java TreeView.
Terms of Appointment Initial appointment is for one year, with
continuation of appointment dependent on availability of funding
and positive performance review.
