The engineer will be expected to work with other members of senior staff in the Advanced Development and Medical Research groups to quickly conceptualize new designs, develop them, and evaluate their clinical performance. The successful candidate must excel in a high-energy team environment and be capable of making sound decisions when faced with the time pressures and incomplete information typical of new product development. Roles and Responsibilities:This position has responsibility and authority for:* Acting on, interpreting and organizing clinical and customer input for new designs* Generation, design and development of new device concepts focused on those clinical needs* Concept documentation, including preparation and review of patent submissions* Developing product architecture concepts and facilitating evaluation of alternatives* Analyzing, producing, testing, and iterating detailed product concepts, designs and prototypes* Developing initial fixtures, processes and instructions to assemble components* Exploring manufacturing feasibility by evaluating key processes and suppliers* Providing support to facilitate transfer of designs to full product development* Planning and management of small projectsQualifications:Competency RequirementsCompetency is based on: education, training, skills and experience. In order to adequately perform the responsibilities of this position the individual must:* Possess a BSME (MSME preferred)* Show a passion for creating robust and reliable products* Have a demonstrated history of products reaching the marketplace* Have experience leading small engineering teams and mentoring other engineers* Possess excellent communication skills, and a strong ability to collaborate and influence in a multi-disciplinary team environment* Have at least seven (7) years experience with mechanism design, including medical device design experience* Have a minimum two (2) years experience bringing medical products to market* Demonstrate strength in design analysis* Be proficient in solid modeling, SolidWorks preferred* Be skilled at hands-on prototyping including use of machine shop equipment* Have familiarity with operating room and laboratory environments, design of surgical instruments, sterilization processes, and designing for sterilizationJob: Engineering
