Please take this opportunity to learn about Genentech, where we believe that our employees are our most important asset and are dedicated to remaining a great place to work.The PositionThe intern job will take place primarily in the laboratory and to assist in experiments related to the development of probes which support the mechanistic understanding of protein metabolism and biodistribution. The lab activities will include chemical organic synthesis, in vitro assays as well as use of preclinical models to determine the biodistribution of our biotherapeutic molecules. Basic knowledge of spectroscopic (e.g. NMR, MS) and/or chromatographic (e.g. HPLC, TLC, flash) techniques is desirable but not required. The intern will be working in a lab where radioisotopes are used; he or she may also be working with animal tissues. The job will also involve the use of a number of chemicals, including but not limited to: acetonitrile, dichloromethane, acids and bases, and potent compounds. The intern student will have opportunities to interact and learn from scientists and research associates. The intern student will also participate in our group meetings and journal clubs including presentation of his/her own data collected during the intern period.Who You Are* The successful candidate should have a BS degree or MS degree in a Chemical or Biological Science with 0-4 years of laboratory experience.* The candidate must have demonstrated knowledge of organic synthesis and basic biology.* The candidate will also be expected to actively participate in data analysis and report writing.* Good oral and written communication skills are important as well as demonstrated effectiveness in a team setting.* The intern must be able to start immediately or on/before January 2, 2013.
