Working together, we''ve become one of the world''s leading research-focused healthcare groups. A member of the Roche Group, Genentech has been at the forefront of the biotechnology industry for more than 30 years, using human genetic information to develop novel medicines for serious and life-threatening diseases. The headquarters for Roche pharmaceutical operations in the United States, Genentech has multiple therapies on the market for cancer and other serious illnesses. Please take this opportunity to learn about Genentech, where we believe that our employees are our most important asset and are dedicated to remaining a great place to work. The PositionA postdoctoral position is available within the Department of Protein Chemistry to pursue functional characterization of novel receptor-ligand interactions of therapeutic interest discovered through our extracellular protein-protein interaction screening platforms, including protein microarrays and automated high-throughput expression cloning [Anal. Biochem. 420(2), 127-38 (2012)]. Published examples of receptors-ligand pairs identified and characterized through collaborative efforts include BTLA-HVEM, TIGIT-PVR, ROBO4-UNC5B and IGFLR1-IGFL. Immunoglobulin-domain superfamily (IgSF) receptors are of particular interest to our lab, and expertise in studying the activities of these or similar receptors would be helpful. A related focus in our group is the identification of virus-host interactions that modulate the immune system. Candidates having backgrounds in this area are especially encouraged to apply. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to be self-motivated and excel in a highly collaborative research environment, bridging the fields of protein biochemistry and immunology, employing a diverse range of techniques. Who You AreThe successful candidate will have a Ph.D. degree in the area of cellular/molecular biology, immunology, virology, biochemistry, or a closely related field with a minimum of 2 first author publications in quality journals. Expertise with Flow Cytometry for analyzing protein- and antibody-cell binding is required. The candidate should also have strong molecular biology and protein purification skills. Experience with general cell-based assays is preferred. The successful candidate must demonstrate they are innovative and capable of working independently while collaborating with others. Strong interpersonal, organization and communication skills are critical. http://www.gene.com/gene/research/postdoctoral/mentors/strchembio/gonzalez/http://www.gene.com/gene/research/postdoctoral/
