Please take this opportunity to learn about Genentech, where we believe that our employees are our most important asset and are dedicated to remaining a great place to work.The PositionA postdoctoral research fellow position is available in the Protein Analytical Chemistry Department in the characterization and identification of colored impurities in recombinant protein therapeutics. The overall objective of this research is improved understanding in color formation in biopharmaceutical products and their detection. The duration of the fellowship is 2-3 years.The successful candidate will develop analytical approaches and specific techniques that can be applied in the structural identification of color impurities associated with therapeutic protein products. The methodologies are potentially applicable in the characterization of low abundance, heterogeneous products with complex modifications.Primary responsibilities for this position include: developing and applying analytical methodologies towards the successful identification of color impurities; collaborating with cell culture and purification colleagues and in other cross-functional teams to address questions related to color formation in protein products; writing manuscript about the developed technologies and their applications, as well as any significant discoveries from the use of the technology.Who You AreCandidates must have a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or a related field with significant training and hands-on expertise in mass spectrometry, protein chemistry and chromatography. Candidates with 0-2 years of experience after Ph.D. will be considered. Candidates must demonstrate strong problem solving ability and potential, a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and excellent written and verbal communications skills. Experience in application of mass spectrometric techniques is preferred. Knowledge in advanced mass spectrometric data interpretation and automated data analysis including the design and use of software is a plus.
