TheDepartment?s 10 Pathologists collaborate with andprovide pathology support to research scientists in the discovery,characterization, and preclinical development of novel therapeutic products fora variety of human diseases. Our organization has strong ties with academic andclinical groups both in the US and abroad, and supports pathology residentrotation activities. Publication in peer-reviewed journals is expected as acomponent of Pathologist career path development at Genentech. This is madepossible by abundant opportunities for scholarly activity associated withpathology support responsibilities.Our group is currently seeking a Pathologist to join theteam to help support (i) research scientists who discover and develop drugs forthe treatment of cancer, and (ii) research scientists and clinicians whodiscover and develop biomarkers for pharmacodynamics and patient selectionpurposes in Phase I, II and III clinical trials of oncologytherapeutics. The successful candidate will be familiar with, if notexpert in, the molecular, cellular, systems biology, and pathogenic mechanismsof cancer. He/she will have a strong interest in providing pathology supportfor drug and biomarker discovery programs in cancer, and an appreciation forthe need for potential flexibility in contributing support to programs outsideof oncology as the need arises.Who You AreQualifications:A MD or DVM, or their foreign equivalents, with appropriate Board Certification in Pathology are required, together with clear demonstration of scientific productivity as evidenced by first and co-authored publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals. A Ph.D. degree in a related field, in addition to the MD or DVM degree will be highly desirable. We seek candidates who can interpret traditional diagnostic categories in the context of a detailed and current understanding of molecular and cellular biology. Candidates must have demonstrated their ability to handle several projects at any given time, to work successfully in teams and to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing to avariety of audiences.*LI-KD1
