Job Statement
Those persons possessing the title of Maintenance Mechanic are expected repair and maintain mechanical and hydraulic components of production machines and equipment including but not limited to metal fabricating machine tools, electric powered vehicles, gasoline powered vehicles, propane powered vehicles and forklifts. Maintenance Mechanics perform a wide variety of tasks. Some may perform highly specialized activities frequently and other duties infrequently or never. The desire to achieve process efficiency may drive specialization. The more widely diverse an incumbents skills, abilities and training or the more the incumbent excels at a certain area of specialization the more value that individual presents to the organization.
Essential Functions
All Maintenance Mechanics will be required to assist in the troubleshooting of and repair of all types of production machines and facility support equipment
All will possess the ability to conduct Oil  filter changes check oil levels.
Most will visually inspect and listen to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions and report defects.
Most will dismantle machines and equipment to gain access to problem areas of machines carts forklift trucks.
Most will inspect and measure parts to detect wear, misalignment leaks and lubrication.
Most will remove and replace worn or defective parts of drive mechanisms or hydraulic system
Most will realign and adjust components such as spindles and clutches
Frequently locate damaged air and hydraulic pipes on machine and measure, cut, thread and install new pipe
All will start machines and equipment to test operation following repair
Many will repair broken parts service all types support equipment.
Many will set up and operate metalworking tools such as lathe, drill press or grinder to make or repair parts
All will complete other tasks as assigned by supervisor
Specifications
A minimum of 3 years experience in rebuilding and repairing machines and all maintenance equipment including hydraulic systems will be required of many Maintenance Mechanics.
A minimum of 3 years experience on manual type actuators, mechanical machinery and low-pressure lube systems will be required of many Maintenance Mechanics.
Problem solving skills are expected of all Maintenance Mechanics in keeping with their particular assignments.
All will be capable of thoroughly analyzing the situation before starting a job.
Knowledge of different types of oils will be required of many Maintenance Mechanics.
Ability to read and interpret blue prints will be required of many Maintenance
            Mechanics.
Experience in the use of many and varied maintenance tools will be required of
all Maintenance Mechanics dependent upon their multiple or specifically assigned
duties.
All must possess the ability to lift a maximum of 40 pounds the ability to climb ladders, scaffolding and poles to be confined to small spaces they must possess independent body mobility and the ability to stand, walk, crawl, stoop, bend, pull or push, identify and distinguish colors and operate power tools or other machinery.
           All must possess strong shop environmental and safety awareness skills
All must possess the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures
All must possess good interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written
All must be capable of working in a team environment
A Maintenance Mechanic may require certification in the operation of Overhead Cranes
A Maintenance Mechanic may be required to ==4000 ==4000 be or become a Certified Forklift Operator
