This part-time position provides civil engineering technician support servicesto the USFS Program. Responsibilities include completing the required numberof water system deferred maintenance items as established by the agency and inaccordance with agency standards. Incumbent applies technical knowledge andknowledge of Forest Service infrastructure and protocol to identify andcorrect moderately complex to complex deferred water system maintenance items.Major Responsibilities: Coordinate and correct deferred water system maintenance items inaccordance with existing surveys and field data. Assist in the development of costing, document costs/survey/fielddata for deferred water system maintenance surveys and condition surveys. Coordinate and schedule personnel to complete required maintenance work. Keep accurate and complete records of work completed. Research and incorporate any new applicable Forest Service policies anddirection. Assist in performing data collection in accordance with instructions andForest Service standards.Competencies:Language Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific andtechnical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability torespond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatoryagencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speechesand articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.Ability to effectively present information to top management, publicgroups, and/or boards of directors.Mathematical Ability to work with mathematical concepts such asprobability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solidgeometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety ofconcrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,diagram, or schedule formJudgment and Decision-making Few precedents and/or procedures arereadily available; work requires frequently handling specialized situationsthat have a moderate to high impact on the department/organization; mostwork is complex and completed independently by considering different coursesof action and refining methods or developing techniques to solve problems;work is typically reviewed only at completion.Required Knowledge and Skills: Professional knowledge of US Forest Service infrastructure, policies,and regulations Working knowledge of INFRA database Working knowledge of Forest Service water system standards andmaintenance requirements Solid verbal and written communication skills Strong critical thinking, decision making and problemsolving/conflict resolution skills Effective time management and organizational skills Proficiency in office management systems, including word processing,spreadsheet, presentation, and email/internet applicationsMinimum Qualifications:Education Bachelors degree in civil engineering, natural resourcemanagement, or related field, plus 10 years USFS experience working withwater systems; or equivalent combination of specialized education andexperiencLicenses .and. Certifications A valid Colorado driver s license. Successfully passed an 8-hour defensive driving course within the past 3years.Security Incumbent is required to stay current on all Safety and Securitystandards and required training that are mandatory for regular Forest Serviceemployees.Physical Demands and Working Conditions:Physical demands and working conditions are those of a typical officeenvironment, including sitting and using a computer for extended periods oftime.
