About the Agency
This position is located in the Bureau of Economics (BE) of the Federal Trade Commission. The Bureau of Economics provides economic analysis and support to antitrust and consumer protection investigations and rule-makings, advises the Commission and other government entities about the impact of government regulation on competition, and analyzes economic phenomena in the nation's economy as they relate to antitrust and consumer protection. The Deputy Director for Consumer Protection is generally responsible for providing economic analysis and evidence for the FTC's consumer protection mission and provides executive leadership and oversight of the division(s) that prepares economic analyses of selected matters, and provides economic support for the Commission's consumer protection rule-making process. This support entails both statistical and analytical efforts to ascertain facts, provide a sound economic basis for actions, and to dispel incorrect economic arguments. The Deputy Director also examines selected policy issues to provide evidence that will inform the Commission's policy on significant consumer protection questions (e.g., health claims in advertising, mandated disclosures.)
