The Economics and Statistics Administration is seeking a highly motivated and capable executive to serve as the Deputy Under Secretary for Economic Affairs. The Deputy Under Secretary is a key advisor to the Under Secretary on all program, policy, and management issues, and is responsible for ensuring that staff work and resources -- both human and financial -- are properly marshaled to ensure timely and effective implementation of the Under Secretary's objectives and policies. The Deputy Under Secretary advises officials with respect to economic and statistical matters; is responsible for the analysis and development of policies on economic and statistical issues and on issues affecting broad sectors of the domestic economy; and serves as the DOC representative to other government agencies concerned with economic and statistical affairs. The Deputy Under Secretary also has oversight responsibility for the day-to-day operations of ESA’s three operating units: U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Economic Analysis, and Office of the Chief Economist.
This position is a senior executive service (SES) career-general position. Positions in the SES are not graded. SES pay is commensurate with qualifications. SES employees are eligible for bonuses and awards based on performance. Veteran’s preference is not applicable to SES.
