JOB SUMMARY:

About the Agency

The Office of Inspector  General (OIG), works within the U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to promote efficiency and effectiveness, and prevent or stop waste, fraud and abuse in departmental programs. We do this through audits and investigations. OIG also consults with the Congress about programs in progress and proposed new laws and regulations. The Inspector General Act of 1978 gives the Office of Inspector General autonomy to do its work without interference. OIG carries out its mission by issuing audit reports, evaluations, management advisories, and other products with findings and recommendations to improve program delivery and performance.

THIS ANNOUNCEMENT MAY BE USED TO FILL ADDITIONAL LIKE VACANCIES IN THE ANNOUNCED DUTY LOCATION.

NATURE OF APPOINTMENT: This is a Recent Graduate opportunity under the DOT Pathways Program.  Appointment is in the Excepted service not-to-exceed one (1) year.  Upon successful completion of the one year developmental program, the position may be converted into the Competitive service as a term or permanent (career/career conditional) employee.  Conversion is not guaranteed and is based on the needs of the agency. If converted, the full performance level of the position will be GS-13.

WHO MAY BE
CONSIDERED: Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying Associate's, Bachelor's, Master’s, Professional, Doctorate, Vocational or Technical degree or certificate from an accredited educational institution. (Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply)

NOTE: Any individual who completed his or her educational requirements between December 27, 2010 and the effective date of the final Pathways regulation (July 10, 2012) will have 2 years from the effective date of the regulation to apply to the Recent Graduates Program.
