NAVSEA's Warfare Center Enterprise is comprised of the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC). With eight Surface Warfare and two Undersea Warfare sites across the United States, the Warfare Centers supply the technical operations, people, technology, engineering services and products needed to equip and support the fleet and meet the warfighters' needs. The Warfare Centers are the Navy's principal research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) assessment activity for surface ship and submarine systems and subsystems. In addition, the Warfare Centers provide depot maintenance and in-service engineering support to ensure the systems fielded today perform consistently and reliably in the future.
Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) is an Echelon II Command and the Navys only Direct Reporting Program Manager, responsible for every aspect of the life of the strategic weapons system. SSP is one of only a few major organizations within the DON with true cradle-to-grave responsibility (from concept, design, and development to production, deployment and disposal). SSPs highly specialized workforce is located in offices through the United States and includes an additional office in the United Kingdom. The SSP headquarters office is located in Washington, DC. The two Strategic Weapons Facilities (SWFs) located in Bangor, WA and Kings Bay, GA provide assembly, storage, checkout and technical engineering services of the weapons systems. The Program management Offices (PMOs) located in Sunnyvale, CA and Pittsfield, MA are responsible for the life-cycle support for the sea-based weapons systems programs, and provide technical and program management expertise, respectively. Our program office in Cape Canaveral, FL supports in-flight testing.
This is a student internship appointment. Upon completion of requirements for graduation and successful completion of the internship, the appointee may become eligible for non-competitive conversion, at the agencys discretion, to a term or permanent position in the competitive service.
