Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as project development and design to include procurement, negotiations and the management of professional services and surveying contracts. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials, with the State's divisions, offices and regions as well as private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor . Must be licensed by the State of Texas as a professional engineer. (Professional engineers licensed in another state, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.) Must have five (5) years experience in transportation engineering, acquired either before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer. Graduate-level engineering education may be substituted for engineering experience on a year per year basis. Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.</LI>
