This position serves primarily as an operator of heavy equipment on initial attack, fire, and fuels management activities. The incumbent also operates this equipment in support of other natural resource projects.

Hourly wage as shown is Rest of US (RUS). Specific wage rate will vary by location and may be higher or lower than the amount shown on the vacancy announcement. This is a continuously open vacancy announcement for one or more locations throughout the Forest Service. The number and location of positions to be filled will be dependent upon individual unit needs. Availability of government housing, federal day care facilities, and bargaining unit status will vary by location. To ensure continued interest and availability, applicants will be notified via e-mail reminding them to re-certify their application every 60 days.

The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum of 90 days of wildland firefighting experience is required.
• Must meet Maximum Entry Age (MEA) requirements.
• Primary firefighter retirement covered position.
• Will require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Subject to negative drug test prior to entrance on duty.
• Position requires a Work Capacity Test (WCT).
• Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with the Selective Service.
• US Citizenship required.
