Food Safety Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY:
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE:
◦High school diploma required. Bachelor Degree in Food Science or Food Technology, or closely related field preferred
◦Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
◦2-5 years of plant or operations quality / food safety / sanitation experience
◦Knowledge of HACCP and sanitation principles
◦Working knowledge of USDA / PACA guidelines
◦Minimum of one year of supervisory experience
◦Thorough knowledge and understanding of cleaning and sanitation procedures for distribution centers
◦Thorough understanding and knowledge of public health (food safety law and regulations), codes, and regulations
◦Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills
◦Strong analytical and technical writing skills
◦Effective written and verbal communication skills
◦Able to work under minimal supervision and have experience managing projects
◦Ability to engage all levels of employees and ability to work effectively with a team
◦Ability to motivate, lead and influence various levels of the organization
◦Ability to assimilate new information quickly and react positively to new and challenging opportunities
◦Energetic, self-motivated and the ability to manage multiple projects and work with multifunctional teams
◦Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

◦Assists with hiring of sanitation personnel
◦Supervises sanitation personnel
◦Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the sanitation staff
◦Ensures the sanitation staff is adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the food safety program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner
◦Ensures that all sanitation staff is trained on the most updated version of the operating procedures.
◦Responsible for performance management process for sanitation staff
◦Communicates regularly with all sanitation staff, both individually and as a group, to ensure effective two-way communication concerning sanitation/food safety issues
◦Responsible for personal professional development through continuing education to serve as subject matter expert
◦Responsible for compliance with all local, state and federal regulations as it pertains to food safety. Adhere to and administer and enforce all food safety company policies and procedures
◦Develops and implements all sanitation related training for sanitation and operations employees as needed
◦Sets the direction for ongoing sanitation verification activities.
◦Ensures all safety requirements related to sanitation are met including proper chemical storage and disposal, MSDA, PPE and procedures.
◦Assists in the development and implementation of standards, policies and procedures related to sanitation and pest control
◦Enhances and supports SOP/HACCP training materials/programs to ensure structure, consistency and alignment with corporate objectives
◦Regularly performs verification audits to ensure the programs are working effectively
◦Develops, implements and administers facility food safety and sanitation policies and SOPs across all departments
◦Advises company management on regulatory compliance pertaining to food safety and facility sanitation
◦Acts as the champion for food safety and quality; motivating, educating and training cross-functional personnel
◦Leads the design and implementation of superior sanitation standards and programs. Assures operations compliance to all sanitation standards and programs
◦Maintains current on knowledge of trends and changes affecting food safety, as well as develops and recommends appropriate program changes to ensure governmental compliance
◦Assigns and monitors site wide sanitation areas of responsibility for all shifts
◦Maintains and updates master cleaning schedule for site meeting corporate guidelines
◦Develops executive summary reports with recommendation for continuous improvements
◦Leads audits (internal audits, document audits, vendor audits, customer audits, USDA audits, FDA audits and third party audits such as AIB)
◦Reviews audit reports generated by third party service provider. Identifies, reviews and resolves any auditing issues. Participates and presents information to standardize (peer review) third party auditors
◦Integrates new products / processes into the HACCP plans
◦Maintains controls for sanitation chemicals including cost, utilization, testing, inventories, and proper labeling of containers.
◦Utilizes a computer system to research and resolve inquiries food safety issues.
◦Other duties as assigned.
◦Complies with and ensures adherence to departmental Preferred Work Methods (PWMs).
◦Conforms to all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment.
◦Holiday, Weekend and Overtime work required.
◦Required to work various shifts to facility food safety program
◦Good attendance and adherence to work schedule.
◦Adherence to all Good Manufacturing Practices, Company Policies, Code of Conduct and Safety procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the ability to move product weighing up to 50 lbs., infrequent moving of product up to 80 lbs., continuous bending, squatting, pushing and pulling and constant standing and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Warehouse, distribution, production environment.
