Food Service Worker I
The Food Service Worker I performs entry level food service work & works a designated 8 hr. shift (11 a.m.- 7:30 p.m.) at various satellite serving kitchens under the supervision of the FSW II/Food Service Manager. He / She performs various food service tasks; unloading pans of food from carts to steam table/oven/refrigerator; preparing/serving food to the residents; setting up dishes/adaptive equipment/etc. for in-home dining; taking and recording temperatures; loading and unloading dishwasher and washing larger items manually; inventorying/restocking/rotation/dating of food stuff in kitchenette and serving kitchens refrigerators and cabinets; sweeping/mopping floors; cleaning of various equipment; maintaining sanitation and safety regulations; interacts with direct care staff, supervisors and co-workers; and completes various assigned job tasks in the Central Kitchen. May be required to assume duties of FSW II in their absence & may assist cooks as need arises.
Essential Job Functions
Prepares and serves food, utilizing proper serving utensils/equipment according to menu requirements
Unloads food carts and places food in proper areas to maintain adequate temperatures
Sets up serving line/equipment prior to meal service and checks to see that all food is available for all diets at duty station before meal service begins.
Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner and ensures that all equipment is working properly.
Maintains duty station in a sanitary organized manner. (I.e., sweeping/mopping floors equipment, kitchenette/serving kitchen refrigerators and cabinets, walls, windows, bathrooms, de-scaling dishes, cups, glass, etc.)
Takes inventory/restocking/rotation/ dating of foodstuff in kitchenette and serving kitchen refrigerators and cabinets.
Completes various assigned job tasks in Serving Kitchen/Central Kitchen-loading/unloading dishwasher, manually washing large pieces of equipment, cleaning serving line/equipment, mopping, cleaning bathrooms/break area, & other duties as assigned.
Supervises Food Service Workers when in charge of serving kitchen. Maintains communication with Direct Care Staff, Supervisors, and co-workers. (I.e., dining/diet roster changes/needs. etc.)
Learn tasks and skills as presented through on-the-job training
Maintains daily records. I.e. information sheet; refrigerator/freezer temperature records; plate waste; dish washer temperature; dining rosters, cleaning schedules, etc.
Takes and records food temperatures upon placing food on serving line/cold bar.
Plugs food carts in prior to meal service for preheating according to set food cart policy/procedure

Knowledge Skills Abilities
Working knowledge of methods used in preparing food, operating food service equipment, and in cleaning and sanitizing food service equipment and other appliances used in preparation or operation of food service areas.
Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds at any given time.
Ability to get along with co-workers, direct care staff, and accept direct supervision to complete job tasks as assigned.
Ability to able to read, speak, and understand English
Ability to write effectively for comprehension by others.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions to serve food attractively and efficiently.
Ability to keep simple records, to maintain order and discipline.
