Food Service Worker II
Responsible for monitoring the preparation and serving of food. Ensuring equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. Maintains records and inventories; prepares reports, receives/issues food and supplies. Prepares patient trays according to individual menus and serves ambulatory patients in an age appropriate manner in the dining room. Assists in preparation of simple items such as sandwiches, beverages, desserts, cooking eggs and pancakes on a griddle. Stores remaining food items in proper containers and at appropriate temperature. Washes and sanitizes eating and cooking utensils, cleans food preparation and dining areas. Receives supplies from vendors, dates and rotates stock. Takes refrigerator, freezer, steam table and dishwasher temperatures and records in logs. Works under supervision of manager with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions
Responsible for monitoring the preparation and serving of food; ensuring equipment and work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. Follows individual patient menu that involve regular and special diets to prepare meal trays. Places trays on tray carts and delivers to patient care units for distribution to patients, or serves ambulatory patients in an age-appropriate manner in the dining room.
Assists in preparation of meals and snacks including but not limited to chopping and slicing food items, prepares beverages, salads, making sandwiches, cooks eggs and pancakes on griddle, serves food items on plates or into bowls for patients. Stores food items in proper containers in appropriate storage unit, ensures food is stored at proper temperatures.
Washes and sanitizes dishes, serving trays in automatic dishwasher. Washes and sanitizes cooking pots and utensils by hand using a three-compartment sink and at the proper temperature for each compartment. Cleans and sanitizes food preparation areas, serving tray line, and dining room. Sweep and mop floors.
Receives stock items and kitchen supplies from vendors, verifies deliveries with invoice, and stores stock items and supplies in dry ingredient room, refrigerator or freezer areas. Stamps date received on all cans and boxes and rotates stock. Maintains records and inventories.
May perform clerical duties such as menu tallies; records temperatures from the refrigerators, freezers, tray line, and dishwasher onto temperature logs. May perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Knowledge and ability to learn basic food preparation techniques.
Knowledge and ability to learn cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
Knowledge and ability to learn basic food preservation procedures.
Knowledge required providing age appropriate care to young adults, adults, and geriatric patients.
Skill in interacting with young adults, adults, and geriatric patients.
Skill in operating automated dishwasher, and other kitchen equipment.
Ability to read, writes, and speaks English.
Ability to read and interpret simple menus.
Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
