Primary purpose of the role
Monitors and maintains the general ledger payroll accounts. Prepares reconciliations, accounting entries, financial reports, and analytical reviews to ensure payroll information is accurately and properly reflected in the financial accounting system in a timely manner. Provides customer service to departments on payroll related inquiries.
Key accountability areas
Maintain confidentiality of all payroll information.
Maintain all payroll general ledger accounts by preparing reconciliations and analytical reviews, performing account analysis and accounting entries.
Monitors payroll general ledger budget personnel costs verse actual costs (expense) and explains the variance; as well as reviews the liability accounts and comments on the month-over-month change.
Communicates with business units, foreign offices and corporate departments regarding daily payroll accounting issues.
Assists during audit and provides information to inquiries submitted by the tax department.
Works with other team members cohesively to ensure the success of the organization by assisting where needed as deemed necessary.
Assists in the operation and management of the payroll system by recommending payroll process improvements, coordinating the development maintenance of the interface, and monitoring policies & procedures.
Key working relationships
Internal contacts that this position regularly communicates with are the Payroll Department, Controller, CFO, and Field representatives. External contacts include the payroll processing company, ADP, benefits processing company, Blue Cross and Blue Shield and our banking representatives at Bank of America. Note that external contacts are not made on a regular basis and that the vast majority of this position requires internal communications.
Resource management
This position is responsible for reviewing and explaining month to month and period to period trends and variances related to the general ledger payroll accounts.
