The USAREUR Registry of Motor Vehicles is a Non-Appropriated Fund Instrumentality (NAFI) with the mission of providing vehicle and firearms registration and operator's licenses for American forces in Germany as specified in the status of forces agreement (SOFA).
Registry of Motor Vehicles located in Sembach, 10 minutes away from Kaiserslautern, Germany. Kaiserslautern has developed into the largest US military community outside the United States. The city of Kaiserslautern is nestled in the small hills west of the Rhine River Valley, on the edge of the famous German Pfalz forest. Although the climate is changeable much of the time, the area does enjoy many pleasant days with reasonable temperatures. The winter is short and mild with some snowfall. The summer is generally warm and comfortable, with few hot days. Kaiserslautern has over 100,000 residents and an additional 50,000 personnel associated with the American Armed Forces. The candidate will work as part of a small team performing a variety of routine to complex assignments, predominately using COBOL (both batch and CICS) on a small IBM mainframe. Besides providing programming and technical support for the Registry itself, the Applications Programming unit also provides software support to a number of Army and Air Force Registration offices (those programs are currently written in Acucobol/MicroFocus COBOL running on a Windows platform) located throughout Germany, and several small in-house applications written in Visual Basic and Microsoft Access. Online processing access is also provided to the Military Police and Customs under the Office of the Provost Marshall. Information is exchanged regularly with the German authorities, INTERPOL, insurance companies, and the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) for fuel card authorizations.
On an occasional basis, employees in this position are required to to work non-standard hours, such as work in irregular schedule including nights, weekends and/or holidays.
