WHAT IS THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE (IRS)? The IRS is a bureau of the Department of the Treasury and one of the world's most efficient tax administrators. WHAT DOES A CONTACT REPRESENTATIVE DO? IRS Contact Representatives work primarily with taxpayers and their representatives through telephone or face-to-face contact. You would provide authoritative tax law assistance and take action where needed to resolve their tax issues, often involving delinquent situations. Actions needed might include analyzing the taxpayer's ability to pay, initiating liens, and negotiating installment payment agreements.
WHAT IS THE WAGE & INVESTMENT DIVISION? The Wage & Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers.
Positions (66) are located in Accounts Management Operations at 4030 Vincennes Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268-3007. The anticipated start date is Monday, January 14, 2013. Additional vacancies may be filled as needed from this announcement.
Tour of Duty may vary; 9:00am to 5:30pm; 10:00am to 6:30pm; or 11:30am to 8:00pm. Training will be scheduled from 9:00am to 5:45pm Monday through Friday.
Interviews may be conducted. Preference eligbiles (veterans) will be referred first, if additional applicants are needed, non-preference eligibles will be referred based upon the number of positions being filled. Applicants will be referred in order of Application Date/Time; beginning with the first 200 eligible Category "A" applicants. If additional vacancies are needed, the next group of Category "A" eligible applicants will be referred in order of Application Date/time in group order of 25 applicants, followed by Category "B" and "C" in category group order (if necessary).
