The Defense Health Agency, National Capital Region Medical Directorate (NCR-MD) is the future of Military Medicine- a partnership in World Class Medical Healthcare. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Dilorenzo Clinic and the Joint Pathology Center, provide world class medical services to the nation's service members and their families.

About the Position:
Work is often sedentary with periods of occasional walking to various locations in the clinic/medical facility, standing for prolonged periods of time, bending, and reaching while filing and carrying light medical and office supplies, medical records and files. This position also requires frequent use of the hand held telephone while accessing different computer systems or while writing. The medical clerk is trained in Community Basic Life Support and may be required to initiate Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation if first responder to a person requiring CPR. Stress levels are high with multiple demands/requests. Concentration is required while maintaining tact and composure in on-going stressful situations.

Work is generally performed in or at the nurse's station of a ward, in an office setting or clinic reception responsible for treating patients with a wide variety of medical/surgical/emotional problems including psychiatric patients. The unit/clinic environment exposes the employee to such things as communicable diseases, and physical abuse from emotionally disturbed patients and distraught visitors. Safety precautions are necessary to include periodic immunization and Tuberculosis monitoring.

 

This is a very customer service focused and busy work environment responsible for the patients' first impression of the Dental Clinic experience.
