LOCATION OF POSITION:

The Food and Drug (FDA) is scientific, regulatory, and consumer protection agency responsible for protecting the public health by helping to assure the safety, efficacy, quality, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices; the safety and security of our nation's food supply, the safety of cosmetics and products that emit radiation, and by regulating the manufacture, marketing, and distribution of tobacco products.  The Office of Foods and Veterinary Medicine (OFVM) integrates the programs of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and the related field activities of the Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA), ensuring optimal use of resources and building the scientific and regulatory capacity to improve the safety, nutritional quality and proper labeling of the domestic and international food supply.  Within OFVM, CFSAN is responsible for conducting research and regulatory programs to insure that foods are safe, sanitary, wholesome, properly labeled and free of harmful levels of contaminants and that cosmetic and food additives are safe.

 

The Office of Applied Research and Safety Assessment (OARSA) is a component of the CFSAN scientific research enterprise responsible for establishing and conducting a cohesive mission-relevant research program in the areas of toxicology and food microbiology that will ensure the safety of the U.S. food supply.  OARSA is one of four science offices within CFSAN, with more than 100 personnel and contract staff and a budget of over $6 million.

 

Executive level compensation package is commensurate with qualifications and experience, which may result in a higher salary than reflected above.

Applications will be accepted from all groups of qualified persons, including non-citizens and Public Health Service Commissioned Officers.  No previous federal experience is required.  This is an Excepted Service position under Title 42.  This appointment does not confer any entitlement to a position in the competitive service and no entitlement to Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) appeal rights.
