Summary:
The Mechanical Assembler II will possess all Mechanical Assembler I qualifications. In addition, a Mechanical Assembler II must be willing and able to lead and direct the work of others. They must also possess a good understanding of the packaging process for natural gas compressors and related components. Additionally a Mechanical Assembler II must be able to install both standard and non-standard components with limited supervision. The individual must abide by all policies and procedures, including those related to safety and environmental issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Coordinate with Shop Supervisor to accomplish various job assignments
• May be called upon to occasionally lead and direct the work of others as required to complete the assembly of a natural gas compressor or pump package
• Will be required to train others in the assembly processes and procedures
• Responsible for ensuring quality of assembled package.
• Must be fully capable of conducting complete drive train alignment on natural gas compressor package or pump package. This includes the use of laser alignment tool.
• Thread and install pipe/conduit
• Bend and install tubing/conduit
• Operate a cutting torch and rosebud
• Assemble and install various mechanical and electrical devices per OEM recommendations.
• Torque fasteners
• Will perform basic pipe fitting tasks.
• Will perform structural welding tasks.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

• Must be able to both recognize and solve problems with limited supervision
• Must be able to read and understand plan, elevation , assembly, and P&ID drawings
• Should have the desire to identify and direct process improvements
• Must possess a good understanding of the packaging process for natural gas compressors and related components including disassembly of packages for shipping purposes
• Must be able to identify and correct quality issues during the assembly process.
• Should possess the ability to train Assembler – Mechanical I essential job duties and tasks
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Must have basic understanding of calculations for take-offs and angles used in pipe fitting
• Must be available to work overtime when required
• Must be capable of determining proper torque requirements for all fasteners
• A good understanding of equipment function and purpose
• Have good structural welding skills
• Advanced skills working with instrument tubing
• Abide by all policies and procedures, including those related to safety and environmental issues
• Advanced skills working with instrument tubing.

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma (or GED) preferred. Three years in the natural gas compressor packaging industry or equivalent experience preferred.

Language Skills:
Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in English. Bilingual helpful. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, suppliers, and co-workers. Ability to write instructions and information on materials.

Mathematical Skills:
Have the ability to work with large numbers. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are required skills to perform daily assignments.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and walk, climb onto and off of lifting equipment, frequently operate controls of material handling equipment (forklift and pallet jack) with hands and feet. The position requires occasionally riding atop moving equipment across rough terrain. The employee must regularly lift and/or move heavy objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to hear radios, audible alarms, and other activities in the vicinity in order to perform the job safely. Some tasks require the employee to work outside in the environment for extended periods of time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
