This position serves as Port Engineer. The Port Engineer is the Type Commanders waterfront representative who identifies, validates, prioritizes, and articulates the Type Commanders requirements to the Regional Maintenance Centers and Type Commanders Maintenance and Modernization Type Desk staffs. The Port Engineer is the Leader of the Maintenance Team in that he/she assigns requirements and sets priorities for what shore services are required to support individual ships and, as such, is charged with the responsibility for all off-ship repair, maintenance, and modernization planning and execution. The actions of the Port Engineer are essential in carrying out Navy maintenance policies to ensure a state of material readiness essential for maintaining the highest degree of operational readiness. The Port Engineer reports to the Type Desk Officer staffs for Maintenance, Engineering, and Modernization and via the Local Senior Port Engineers and Force Senior Port Engineer for administrative matters and policy guidance.
