The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). The IHS goal is to raise Indian health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to improve health outcomes to over 1.9 million AI/AN through a system of IHS, Tribal and Urban operated facilities and programs.

The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3. Candidates with a complete application will be considered for vacancies that match the desired geographic locations, specialties, and/or job preferences. Period of Eligibility: Applications will remain eligible for three (3) months from the time the application is received.

Who May Be Considered: US Citizens, current and former Competitive Service Federal employees, Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and eligible Indian Preference candidates.

Position Details: Permanent, Temporary, or Term with tour of duty of Full-Time, Part-Time or Intermittent. The Agency has the option of extending Term Appointments for up to a maximum of four years. 

Salary: Title 38 Market Pay

Years of Experience (post MD/DO) Primary Care Specialties:

• $150,000 - 0-3 years (Board Eligible)
• $155,000 - 0-3 years (Board Certified)
• $160,000 - Over 3 - Under 6 Years (Board Eligible)
• $165,000 - Over 3 - Under 6 Years (Board Certified)
• $165,000 - Over 6 - Under 9 Years (Board Eligible)
• $170,000 - Over 6 - Under 9 Years (Board Certified)
• $170,000 - Over 9 Years (Board Eligible)
• $175,000 - Over 9 Years (Board Certified)
• $185,000 - Over 9 years (Board Certified) - GS-14, Polacca Location Only.
