The Seasonal Recruitment Operations Center is currently accepting applications to fill up to 1 temporary positions at Isle Royale National Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years.  Anticipated Entry on Duty: April, 2014

Isle Royale National Park is a large, remote and isolated island in northwestern Lake Superior, approximately 70 miles north of the park's administrative headquarters in Houghton, Michigan.  This position is duty-stationed on the island and the incumbent will occupy government dormitory style housing with shared kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom facilities.  Due to limited facilities, housing for families is not provided.  Isle Royale is federally designated wilderness with no roads, few telephones, no reliable cell phone coverage, limited amenities, and limited opportunity to return to the mainland.  Internet access for personal business on government computers is permitted during non-work hours. Groceries and other supplies are delivered weekly or bi-weekly depending on the work site.  To protect Isle Royale's fauna from disease and other maladies, pets are prohibited.
