Physiatrist/Spinal Cord Injury Center: The VA Medical Center in Syracuse, New York is seeking a staff physiatrist for our newly constructed state of the art Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Center. Candidates must be board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Those with SCI certification will be considered preferentially. This position involves the management of an inpatient SCI rehabilitation bed service and related outpatient clinical activities. It also involves the supervision of house staff and the ability to foster/promote a proper academic environment. Applicants must possess a current and unrestricted license in any State and should have excellent diagnostic and interpersonal skills, a commitment to team building and the overall aptitude for leadership, educational development and research. A corresponding academic appointment will be conferred by the State University of New York Upstate Medical University (SUNY UMU). The Syracuse VA Medical Center is closely affiliated with and physically adjacent to State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University (UMU). The position may be filled on a full-time VA basis or under a part-time VA, part-time SUNY UMU arrangement. Our current staff consists of two full-time physiatrist's with SCI certification and two part-time attendings. The Syracuse VA is a 106 bed facility that is conducive to teaching, research and the provision of patient care. The newly completed SCI Center is designed for 30 inpatient beds. The Syracuse VA is a dynamic teaching hospital that is highly regarded in the Upstate New York region and within the VA nationally.
