About the Agency

The Port Veterinarian serves as Veterinary Medical Officer in a regulatory and enforcement agency with the responsibility for overall station import/export operations at one or more air, ocean, or land border ports of entry/export to preclude international movement of animals, animal products, by-products, or associated materials and vectors capable of causing introduction of animal diseases.
APHIS is an emergency response agency. This means that all Agency employees may be asked or assigned to participate in rotating temporary duty assignments to support emergency programs at some time during their careers with APHIS. For details click: APHIS Emergency Response
