JOB SUMMARY:
Dispatchers take emergency and non-emergency phone calls, dispatch police/fire/medical personnel under high stress situations while multitasking. Dispatchers are required to monitor status of all public safety personnel at all times and have good computer, communication and customer skills. Memorization of codes, computer commands and Elko County geographical area is a must. Position includes retirement through PERS, medical benefits and leave after probationary period. Starting wage is $16.95 per hour. Applicants must be willing to work shift work including weekends and holidays, be able to type at least 35 w.p.m., pass a written exam, an oral exam and an extensive background investigation; those with criminal backgrounds will not be considered. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of progressively responsible office experience which involved the use of computers, data entry, and/or telephone/radio customer service work. Use of reference books, maps and manuals.
