About the Agency

About the position:  Oregon Caves National Monument is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, hardworking individual for the position of GS-0303-05, Visitor Services Assistant (Interpretation).  This is a part-time (up to 32 hours per week), TERM, seasonal position.  There is ONE position available.  No government housing can be offered under this appointment.

 

This position will be filled in the Excepted Service under the Contiguous to the Area appointing authority for Oregon Caves National Monument.  If hired into the Excepted Service into a Career-Conditional Appointment based on the Monument’s authority, it will not confer the portability of an appointment with the Competitive Service.  To read more about Excepted Service positions, please click:  http://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/hiring-authorities/excepted-service/

 

This position will be filled under the Contiguous-to-the Area appointing authority for Oregon Caves National Monument located within Josephine County in Southern Oregon. Applications will be accepted only from individuals who have maintained a current permanent exclusive residence within the Illinois Valley and the towns of Cave Junction and Grant’s Pass of Josephine County, Oregon for a minimum of two (2) years. You must complete the narrative contiguous to the area authority question in the assessment questionnaire stating where in communities you lived, length of time, and address of occupancy. If you are mailing or faxing in your application you must clearly provide this information in your resume. Failure to submit this information will remove you from consideration for this position. ** 

 

Area information:  Oregon Caves National Monument is located at 4,000 feet, within the rugged and beautiful Siskiyou Mountains of southwestern Oregon, a region widely recognized for its rich geological and biological diversity.  The residence area, visitor center, and historic lodge are all nestled around the cave entrance under a crown of lush green conifers, maples, and madrone trees. Several trailheads lead into the surrounding mountains.
