Job Description
The Business Service Center is seeking to hire a The Payroll Analyst to provide accounting skills necessary to the function of the Business Service Center payroll office, maintain employee pay records, prepare for payroll runs, and create payroll reports, analyze payroll and benefits issues, propose solutions to address customer needs, and act as a functional expert. This position works under the direction of the Director of Payroll. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Assist Payroll Processing (30%): Monthly and Semi-Monthly payroll in PeopleSoft North American Payroll module
* Employee Pay Data (30%): Maintains employee pay data, records pay data changes from source documents and interprets University policies and procedures, and State and Federal regulations affecting payroll procedures
* Reporting of Data (15%): Disbursement and reconciliation of monthly vendor check from accounts payable module.
* Customer service (15%): Analyzes and recommends solutions to address customer issues related to payroll and leave reporting
* Communication (10%): Represents organization by utilizing effective communication and customer service skills to serve customers and provide information and updates on changes and processes; provides helpful information and anticipates needs of organization to keep customers up to date and help them utilize the system
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess an Associate's degree in accounting or a related field and fouryears related payroll/time and labor experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
* Knowledge of applicable laws, codes regulations, standards, methods and practices related to payroll and/or time and labor systems
* Understand proper taxation of employer paid benefits, process correct garnishment calculations and compliance. Working knowledge of payroll best practice
* Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University policies and procedures related to the area of assignment
* Ability to troubleshoot and identify errors quickly using a highly time sensitive process
* Skill in making mathematical calculations and computations with intermediate to advanced MS Excel experience
* Ability to provide high-quality customer service
* Ability to keep complex records; to assemble and organize data of complex nature, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
* Experience with 9.0 or better PeopleSoft North American Payroll
* Organizational, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills
* Strong interpersonal communication skills able to communicate with various levels of management
* Knowledge of or ability to rapidly learn University policies and procedures related to the area of assignment
* Ability to run query criteria to create ad-hoc reports as needed for reconciling and balancing payrolls
