The Indian Health Service (IHS) is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN). The IHS goal is to raise Indian health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides leadership and direction to programs and activities designed to improve health outcomes to over 1.9 million AI/AN through a system of IHS, Tribal and Urban operated facilities and programs.

This Continuous Open Announcement (COA) allows acceptance of applications throughout the year with eligible applicants being placed on the COA register and referred for consideration as vacancies occur. The first Cut-off date for receipt/referral of applications to be considered for available vacant positions will be 10/4/13. Other Cut-off dates will be established based on the date requests for a List of Eligibles are received to fill other vacancies. 10 point Veteran's Preference ESEP applicants who submit a complete application after a Cut-off date but before the List of Eligibles is issued, will be considered and referred on the list, if qualified.
Appointment: May be Permanent, Temporary, Excepted Time-Limited or Term with tour of duty as Full-Time, Part-Time or Intermittent. The Agency has the option of extending Time-Limited and Term appointments for up to a maximum of four years. Temporary positions NTE 12 months or less are subject to termination at any time. The Agency has the option of extending Temporary position appointments for up to a maximum of two years.
Facilities: The two Oklahoma City Area Hospitals located in Claremore and Lawton, range from 25-50 beds. Full services are available at all the hospitals including general medicine and surgery, pediatrics and outpatient services. The Health Centers located throughout the Area provide ambulatory care services.
