Rhode Island National Guard

The Rhode Island National Guard traces its history from the first colonial defensive force established in the town of Portsmouth, Rhode Island in 1638. Today, the Rhode Island National Guard consists of dedicated men and women, prepared to serve our State and Nation in a variety of military specialties.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Rhode Island Air National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Rhode Island Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Rhode Island Air National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

Persons appointed with indefinite status may be separated when their services are no longer needed. If a permanent status employee at the same grade level as this announcement is selected, Nature of Action will be Reassignment; tenure will not change. If a permanent excepted status employee is selected at a higher grade, Nature of Action MAY be Temporary Promotion. Should the need for the indefinite time limitations placed on this position no longer exist, the Temporary Promotion and/or the Indefinite Appointment COULD be converted to permanent action without further competition.

Veteran's Preference does not apply to the National Guard Excepted Service.

Permanent Change of Station (PCS) relocation allowance NOT authorized.

 

This position is located in the 143rd AMXS Sortie Generation Section of the Aircraft Generation Division within the Logistics Directorate of an Air National Guard Flying Wing. Its purpose is to act as the crew chief with responsibility for directing the total maintenance effort on individually assigned aircraft. Fully responsible for providing detailed technical insight on individual aircraft’s level of Mission Capability (MC), and develops and recommends a comprehensive course of action to maintain the aircraft at Full Mission Capability (FMC).

• Must be willing to become a member of the RI Air National Guard.
• Must be able to obtain a military grade of E-1 to E-7.
• Assignment to the RI National Guard in AFSC 2A3XX or 2A5XX.
• Appointment is contingent upon results of Protocol B Physical Exam.
• Background Criminal Investigation required prior to appointment.
• Must have a valid state driver's license.
