JOB SUMMARY:
Position requires knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM and CPT coding principles and guidelines.<br>Knowledge of reimbursement systems, as well as federal, state and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding and billing.<br>Knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.<br>Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, techniques and surgical procedures; anatomy and physiology; major disease processes; pharmacology; and the metric system to identify specific clinical findings, to support existing diagnoses, or substantiate listing additional diagnoses in the medical record<br>Knowledge of the AAPC Standards of Ethical Coding<br>Excellent written and oral communication skills including verbal communication skills to include public speaking<br>Above average problem solving skills and excellent customer service skills<br>Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel<br>Prefer experience with an applicable computer based business software such as EPIC<br>Ability to work with an automated, computer focused workflow system<br>Some travel may be required. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.<br>Responsibilities:<br>Building client relationships while working on assigned projects<br>Ability to demonstrate strong communication skills both written and oral.<br>Working collaboratively within a team setting<br>Understands CPT & ICD9 coding methodologies<br>Analyze and Assign CPT, ICD-9 and HCPCS codes based on services provided by physicians and providers<br>Provide feedback and education related to coding and documentation reviewed to both internal coding staff and external client providers and personnel<br>Implement, communicate, educate and ensure adherence to all billing guidelines, to include both government and commercial payers<br>Must be able to articulate ways to improve the organization’s Compliance efforts based on auditing and monitoring trends<br>Understand, promote and encourage ethical conduct and ensure compliance with governmental laws, rules and regulations.<br>Monitor government agency communications and raise awareness of any high risk billing practices that have the potential to indicate fraud or abuse.<br>Review coding denials from payers and recommend appropriate action to resolve the claim based on payer guidelines<br>Maintain knowledge of coding and regulatory changes and compliance requirements<br>Provide coding support for medical procedures and/or E&M coding<br>Other work as necessary<br>Education:<br>Clinical Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)<br>Prefer experience with one or more applicable physician-based computer clinical and business software including, but not limited to: EPIC, GE, Next Gen, LSS, Meditech, and/or eClinical Works <br>Qualifications: <br>Two years of professional coding experience is preferred<br>Understanding of CPT and ICD-9 coding<br>The company offers competitive compensation packages including an incentive compensation plan, comprehensive medical / dental / life insurance, 401(k) and employee stock purchase plans.
