JOB SUMMARY:
The Database Software Developer will support the Technical Support Services Contract, Remote Sensing Division development group as part of the USGS Land Satellites Data System (LSDS) Program. The developer will be responsible to provide system analysis, design, development, and implementation of applications in databases. The individual will work with the staff, contractor technical managers, and the government customer to design and implement core Oracle and Postgres database applications and procedures to meet requirements and needs of the projects. <br>The developer must have the ability to work autonomously or in a team environment with other contractor staff and the government customer. The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills and the individual must have the ability to take initiative, develop creative solutions, and have a willingness to learn.<br>Position Requirements<br>Requirements: <br>• Experience in Database Development #1 Design and software & query optimization<br>• Experience in SQL and PL / SQL (or any other SQL based procedural language)<br>• Perform code development for assigned tasks<br>• Experience with Oracle Objects, Types, Advanced Queuing and object oriented database programming.<br>• Demonstrate understanding of the Oracle Architecture and Data Warehousing<br>• Ability to translate technical specifications, and/or logical and physical design into code for new or enhancement projects for internal clients; developing code that reuses subroutines or objects, is well structured, includes sufficient comments, and is easy to maintain; writing programs, ad hoc queries, and reports<br>• Support anomaly investigation and trouble shooting activities<br>• Willingness to participate in special projects and performing other duties as assigned<br>• Excellent quantitative, analytical, interpersonal, and communications skills<br>• Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment<br>• Proficient with Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint, and Word<br>Other Qualifications:<br>• Knowledge and experience with Postgres SQL and Oracle Warehouse Builder is a plus<br>• Ability to elevate code into the development, test, and production environments on schedule; providing follow-up production support; submitting change control requests and documents<br>• Ability to learn and following software development methodology; learning and following architecture standards<br>• Participate in design, code, and test inspections throughout life cycle to identify issues; participating in other meetings, such as those for use case creation<br>• Participate in systems analysis activities, including system requirements analysis and definition (e.g., prototyping), and logical and physical design<br>• Perform as a tester for unit, integration, systems, acceptance, and related testing<br>• Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a dynamic environment<br>• Ability to multi-task and support multiple customers / projects<br>Education & Experience: BS / BA in information system, computer science or related database field preferred and 3 years of experience.
