The State of South Dakota, Bureau of Finance and Management (BFM) is looking for motivated and skilled individuals to fill multiple Accounting Analyst positions in Pierre, SD. These positions are part of the Accounting / Auditing career family. The opportunity for career growth exists and there are several different career paths that can be explored. Accountant / Auditor level assignment will be determined by the education and experience of the incumbent. Please include a letter of interest, resume and college transcript with your application. The individuals selected for these positions will have opportunities to: be part of expanding an innovative team designed to carry out statewide accounting and financial reporting; perform complex and technical accounting and financial transactions and analysis on issues of statewide significance; provide statewide leadership, advocacy, and service to other state agencies; carry out specialized accounting processes being performed within the BFM. Duties include: perform individual tasks, in addition to working as part of a team and with the various agencies of state government as necessary for the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the State of South Dakota; collect, assemble, prepare, examine and analyze accounting records and transactions, financial statements, and other financial reports to ensure the accuracy, completeness and conformance with accounting and reporting standards; serve as the point of contact between the BFM and agencies of state government by providing guidance on accounting and financial reporting, standards, policies, procedures and internal control issues; prepare, process and review reconciliations of financial statements and records to ensure completeness and accuracy of the CAFR; review, research, interpret and advise agencies on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements and statements; maintain financial security and strengthening statewide financial internal controls through continuous process and procedure evaluations, and recommending changes; develop rapport, collaborate, and communicate openly and effectively with coworkers and agency staff to create an environment of trust that facilitates the achievement of goals; represent BFM externally in a manner that enhances the agency's credibility, reputation, and value. Licenses and Certifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting (or related business degree with major coursework in accounting) and 0-2 years of progressive accounting experience is preferred. This is an hourly position and is exempt from the Civil Service Act. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Knowledge of: Governmental (Fund) Accounting; GAAP standards and practices and GASB pronouncements and statements; Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Governmental Auditing Standards; governmental fiscal administrative processes; computerized accounting software, Microsoft Excel, Word, Query and other desktop tools. Ability to: prepare, analyze and interpret complex accounting transactions and financial reports; communicate information clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; interpret rules and regulations, make timely and accurate decisions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.<br>VETERANS' PREFERENCE ELIGIBLE  <br>&quot;An Equal Opportunity Employer&quot;
