JOB SUMMARY:
Job ID: 2723; Close Date: 02/04/2014;  Agency: South Dakota Department of Agriculture; Animal Industry Board<br>Salary / Grade: $11.47 - $17.21 per hour, depending on experience E11 This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act. The incumbent will design and maintain computer databases and spreadsheets to compile data for disease monitoring programs, and for other regulatory and non-regulatory programs; creates reports for managers including writing structured query language (SQL) statements to draw data from applicable state and federal databases; and assists other staff members in developing and modifying databases to fulfill data collection and reporting requirement. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: Knowledge of or a background in animal science or the livestock industry is preferred. A background in agriculture would be beneficial. Working knowledge of access database development and Microsoft SQL database development would also be beneficial. Knowledge of: livestock diseases; basic data collection and management methods; database development and reporting structures; modern office practices, procedures, and equipment; computer software applications, Microsoft Access, Excel and Word; business English, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Skill to: basic computer skills. Ability to: type accurately in positions requiring keyboarding; set up and type copy in a variety of formats such as narratives, manuscripts, business correspondence, statistical tables, etc.; proofread and edit rough copy for grammar, spelling, syntax, and style; calculate solutions to arithmetic problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages; communicate in a concise and effective manner; compose a general business letter; read and comprehend written materials; accurately record, file, and transmit information; accomplish assigned professional tasks; organize and coordinate activities; research and compile data; exercise tact, patience, and discretion in communicating and dealing with persons of varying backgrounds and temperament.; develop a working knowledge of Animal Industry rules, regulations and import requirements. <br>VETERANS' PREFERENCE ELIGIBLE <br>&quot;An Equal Opportunity Employer&quot;
