Job ID: 2645; Close Date: 01/27/2014; Agency: Department of Game, Fish and Parks; Division of Wildlife<br>Salary / Grade: $11.47 per hour N11 <br>This position serves as one of three Conservation Technicians for the North Area of Region 2. The Conservation Technician is a trainer and daily team leader for two seasonal personnel and one intern; and directs daily work schedules for those employees, as well as accomplishing on-the-ground work activities, which includes tree, grass and food plot plantings, fence, sign and parking lot maintenance and other activities related to Game Production Area management. The Technician is responsible to organize the necessary vehicles, tools and supplies needed to complete assigned work, and to complete the necessary repairs and maintenance on vehicles and equipment; and to ascertain all work is done in a safe and efficient manner, and also to compile reports on vehicle use and maintenance, and field work accomplishments. A valid driver's license and be able to obtain a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) within 30 days of hire date to retain employment is required. Employee will be subject to pre-employment, random, reasonable-suspicion, post-accident, follow up, and return-to-duty drug and alcohol testing. A pesticide applicator's license in categories G and 1A and ATV operator certification is required within 30 days of hire date. A National Wildlife Coordinating Group (NWCG) red card qualification for the Firefighter II position which includes successful completion of the S-130, Basic Firefighter, S-190, Introduction to Fire Behavior and L-180, Human Factors on the Fireline courses, and successful completion of the NWCG Pack Test for physical fitness is required within the first year of the hire date. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A degree in wildlife and fisheries management or range science, experience working with wildlife habitat development and management, and prescribed burning experience is preferred. Knowledge of: farming practices related to wildlife habitat development including tree planting, native grass development, and food plot plantings; seed and planting requirements, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides as related to wildlife habitat development and management; noxious weed control including appropriate chemicals, methods and timing of application, and application equipment; global positioning systems (GPS) equipment and geographic information systems (GIS) applications. Skill to: manage people and multiple tasks; determine necessary supplies and materials for daily work activities and compile reports; maintain facilities; do welding work and grounds-keeping duties such as plumbing, electrical repair, carpentry and painting; operate basic computer programs including word processing and spreadsheets. Ability to: organize, prioritize and direct daily seasonal and intern crew assignments; operate a variety large and small trucks, recreational vehicles and farm tractors and implements; use a variety of hand and power tools; maintain and repair vehicles and equipment; handle chemicals safely; communicate effectively to accomplish assigned tasks; lift heavy loads, work long hours, and work outside during inclement weather. <br>VETERANS' PREFERENCE ELIGIBLE <br>&quot;An Equal Opportunity Employer&quot;
