WHO MAY APPLY:  Applicants must maintain a permanent and exclusive residence within or contiguous (within 35 miles of Badlands National Park boundaries).  The applicant must document that their place of residence for the last 2 years lies within the 35-mile limitation, and the applicant must be dependent for livelihood primarily upon employment available within the Badlands National Park.

This is a full time temporary position, not-to-exceed 1 year, located at Badlands National Park, Interior, South Dakota.  The primary purpose of the position is to operate gasoline and diesel powered heavy equipment.

AREA INFORMATION: Badlands National Park is located in southwest South Dakota, 75 miles East of Rapid City (population 67,000), and 30 miles from Wall, Kadoka, and Phillip. Limited grocery shopping, service station, K-8 school and Post Office are located in interior, 2 miles from park headquarters. Shopping, medical and dental facilities, and schools K-12 are available in Wall, Kadoka, Phillip, and Rapid City. P ark housing will not be available. The area is a beautiful place to live and raise a family but winters can be harsh with occasional very cold temperatures, high winds and blizzard like conditions.
