About the Position:
This position is
located within the Environmental Division of the Directorate of Public Works,
US Army Garrison, Fort Hood, TX. The office is comprised of approximately 75
Government employees consisting of natural and cultural resource personnel,
engineers, Environmental Protection Specialists, and technicians. The office
environment is dynamic and challenging due to the environmental mission in
support of the largest military post in the US Army. DPW at Fort Hood is an
organization consisting of 400+ employees accomplishing a wide variety of
missions. Other offices that perform maintenance, engineering, housing, and
services functions provide opportunities for cross training and/or promotion
potential.
Fort Hood is located in a temperate region of Texas between Austin and Waco. Temperatures vary from an average high of 92 deg F in the summer to average highs of 65 deg F in the winters, allowing for outdoor recreation for much of the year. The supporting communities of Killeen and Copperas Cove provide excellent housing at a very reasonable cost. Urban and suburban housing is readily available. Fort Hood is a major employer in the area and has an excellent partnership with the neighboring communities. The area is fast growing with new schools and shopping opportunities. Local colleges (University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Central Texas College and Tarleton University) provide higher educational pursuit. The University of Texas at Austin and Baylor University are located within commuting distance. The area is home to many churches. Recreation abounds with fishing, water skiing, camping, hunting, and golf available (two lakes within a 15 minute drive).
