Who May Apply: Students living in or attending school within the San Antonio, Texas commuting area. Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree-seeking student in an accredited technical or vocational school, two-year or four-year college or university, undergraduate, graduate or professional school.
These positions are being filled under the Pathway's NTE Internship Program and are expected to last 2 years. Appointments may be extended based on continued need/funds and the student's continued eligibility in the Pathways Internship Program. A Pathways Intern NTE may be eligible for conversion to a Pathways Indefinite and then be converted to a permanent or term appointment without further competition upon satisfactory completion of the program requirements. If converted to a term or permanent position, these positions will have a full performance level of a GS-09. Conversion is not guaranteed.
The incumbents will be placed in the NPS ProRanger Program located in San Antonio, Texas. The ProRanger Program is an academic and technical skills training as well as a paid internship. A ProRanger Cadet will become part of a learning cohort made up of 16 fellow cadets. Positions will be hired at the GS-4 and GS-5 level. The cohort will annually participate in a ProRanger course that focuses on learning about the mission and functions of the NPS, the role of law enforcement in National Parks and the reflective National Park experiences of the cohort group. As well, the ProRanger Program San Antonio Cadet will be assigned to a National Park area and will be employed as a seasonal NPS Park Ranger during select summers. Upon successful completion of the summer internship(s), the ProRanger cadet will be enrolled in a 15 week Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program (SLETP) for NPS Park Rangers.
