Senior Hydrogeologist - Mine Requisition # SAL001ES The Senior Hydrogeologist monitors and manages groundwater and surface water removal in the pit environment. The role ensures critical mine dewatering meets predetermined targets to ensure slope stability. In addition, the role provides key technical support for the mine planning and mine operation departments. The successful candidate will be able to: ?Develop and implement long-term pit dewatering / slope depressurization strategy working with KUC water management group. ?Develop and implement groundwater pore pressure models for slope stability analysis using Rio Tinto groundwater modelers and hydrogeologic consultants. ?Manage and improve groundwater monitoring system by overseeing piezometer well drilling, hydraulic testing, and installation of groundwater monitoring instrumentation. ?Manage pit dewatering program by overseeing horizontal drain drilling and in-pit pumping well network. ?Oversee special projects; e.g., pumping well replacements and surface water management systems. ?Participate in technical meetings and review technical reports as subject expert. ?Provide technical mentoring to develop direct reports. Preferred Qualifications: ?Drive positive Zero Harm Safety Culture. Ensure compliance with KUCC safety, health and environmental standards and procedures. ?B.S. degree in geology, hydrology / hydrogeology, environmental science, geological engineering/engineering geology or a related field. MS degree in hydrology / hydrogeology desired. ?5 - 7 years relevant experience in hydrology and geology. ?2 - 3 years experience in open pit mine environment. ?Certified Hydrogeologist (CHG) desired. ?Membership of professional geological, hydrological and mining societies such as SME, SEG, NGWA, GSA. ?Knowledge of groundwater flow in fracture-controlled hydrologic systems. ?Strong analytical and computer skills. Familiarity with AutoCAD, MineSight, Microsoft Office software suite. ?Competent in FeFLOW, MODFLOW or other water modeling software. ?Must have a proven ability to operate independently and in multi-disciplinary teams, and a participative management style. ?Demonstrated leadership skills, strong self-motivation. ?Excellent interpersonal skills. ?Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
