The Seasonal Recruitment Operations Center is currently accepting applications to fill up to 6 temporary positions at Bryce Canyon National Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for rehire in subsequent service years. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April, 2014

CLIMATE/WEATHER: Because of high elevation 7,000 - 9,000 ft) Summer and Fall are colder and more stormy, than one might expect for a Southern Utah location. Snow is possible in May and October but usually melts away the same day.  Nighttime lows dip near freezing except in July and August.  Summer high temperatures are mild seldom exceeding 90 degrees F. In July and September severe, short duration thunderstorms are common, resulting in flash-flooding and extreme lighting danger.

RECREATION: In addition to hiking within Bryce Canyon, summer activities such as mountain biking, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, ORV/4-wd are immediately available outside of the park on surrounding USFS and BLM land. Water sports such as canoeing and boating is possible on nearby mountain lakes and popular at Glen Canyon and Lake Mead NRAs 3-5 hours drive away.

SHOPPING/MEDICAL/ENTERTAINMENT: Bryce Canyon is a remote location.  Small grocery stores, gas stations, churches and medical and dental services can be found within 26 miles of the park (Panguitch and Tropic, UT). However, closest department stores, home-improvement stores, movie theaters, full-service grocery, medical specialists, etc. are 80 miles away in Cedar City, UT.

This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.

This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
