JOB SUMMARY:
Ute Tribe is hiring a Environmental Specialist. The position is dependent on annual renewed funding. The purpose of this position is to assist the BIA in preparing and reviewing environmental documents pertaining to Oil and Gas Development within the reservation boundaries. This is a professional level position responsible for serving the BIA Branch of Real Estate Services on all aspects of environmental compliance and enforcement. Specific duties include: - Coordinate and prepare comments and consultation with the US Fish and Wildlife - Review and become familiar with existing federal and state statutes and regulations (NEPA, FESA, etc.) - Keep NEPA Standard Operating procedures up to date and write other procedures as needed to address all impacts to the environment and social effect on tribe. - Participate in the development of Environmental Reservation Wide EIS Conduct interdisciplinary team meeting on NEPA projects requiring an Environmental Assessment or Environmental Impact Statement Incumbent must possess skill in the use of a personal computer, Word, Excel. Strong written and oral communication skills and be able to relate highly technical and sometimes controversial information to a wide variety of people. An Associate Degree is required from an accredited college or university with emphasis in either natural resources, biology, ecology, microbiology, environmental science; or two years of experience in field identification of Utah endangered species and animals, using primary reference materials and general work experience working on projects that involve NEPA/CEQA compliance and permitting. Incumbent must have knowledge and understanding of tribal governments and experience working with Indian people. Must pass a drug-screen examination, a background check and willing to travel to meetings in/out of state and willing to work outdoors and on some weekends.
