JOB SUMMARY:
Provide appropriate services to Head Start children with special needs throughout Sanpete County, UT. Job Duties 1. Follow systematic procedures for the recruitment, identification, and delivery of services to children with special needs. 2. In collaboration with education staff, ensure initial developmental screenings are conducted for each child in a timely manner. 3. Actively teach and play daily in classrooms and on playground with children. 4. Routinely document classroom observations of children with special needs. 5. In cooperation with teachers, conduct caser reviews and develop lesson plan activities that promote social-emotional, cognitive, communication, fine and gross motor, and physical development. 6. Maintain a comprehensive record keeping system for children needing special services. 7. Attend evaluations of children with outside agencies as requested by parents. 8. Attend IEP/IFSP meetings. 9. Conduct home visits as required to provide parents with information regarding their legal rights throughout the special education process, obtain their permission for further evaluation or mental health services, and give suggestions for home activities or to follow up on recommendations. 10. Submit a monthly report to the Education and Disabilities Manager. Request assistance as needed from the TA team members. 11. Ensure a smooth transition for children with special needs from one Head Start center to another, to and from early intervention programs, and to and from school district programs. 12. Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to parents and children. 13. Know all CDLFU emergency procedures and policies. 14. Provide training to staff and parents regarding developmental issues. 15. Coordinate referrals to outside agencies for further evaluation, disability services, and mental health services as necessary. 16. Become the family service worker for families whose child has an IEP/IFSP or as caseload requires. Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Psychology, Social Work or Early Childhood Education. 2. Bilingual Spanish/English required.
