JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Knowledge Engineer - Associate is primarily responsible for the development, implementation, validation, and maintenance of interdisciplinary knowledge bases providing clinical decision support capabilities for internally developed or vendor supplied applications. The essential purposes of this position are to create and maintain structured (executable) knowledge modules obtained from multiple knowledge sources and/or domain experts, encourage acceptable content structure and patterns according to regulatory and best practice recommendations, when applicable, and to be a liaison between knowledge base programmers and authors/end users of the knowledge.    The associate level medical knowledge engineer has basic familiarity and minimal experience with medical knowledge bases. This person works on small, defined elements of large projects. Their abilities encompass a subset of the total knowledge required within specialty area, and are in process of developing remaining skills. This position requires additional support and/or training to become fully proficient. The work is overseen by higher level technical contributors.    Job Essentials    Follows technical specifications for resolution of low complexity problems and resolves low to moderately complex problems when pre-defined resolution procedures do not exist.    Helps to ensure that support specifications are thorough and sufficient to manage the expectations of the customer and corporate leadership.    Provides technical assistance to staff, programmers, and other team members, and actively participates in periodic staff meetings to help identify problem trends, and support education needs.    Participates in knowledge base development and maintenance tasks of low complexity with limited supervision, and demonstrates basic understanding of the structure, content, and services provided by the knowledge database system and clinical decision support system at Intermountain Healthcare.    Creates and improves low complexity processes for knowledge content development and maintenance.    Manages low to moderately complex projects, including developing technical specifications for assigned projects, and developing and communicating project plans and schedules with appropriate levels of review.    Documents business requirements and designs proposed solutions, ensuring that specifications are sufficient to manage the expectations of the customer. Documents changes and decisions made as specified in standards and conventions. Assists in tracking project progress and statistics and in identifying budget needs.    Tests software and validates knowledge base content with supervision, adhering to software and knowledge base validation control procedures and documentation, and to release procedures and documentation. Utilizes and proposes improved test and validation processes and procedures for the knowledge base content with supervision.    This position will work with confidential and proprietary information that requires a signed IT Employee Invention and Confidentiality Agreement upon hire.    Minimum Requirements    Bachelorapos;s degree in clinical sciences OR four or more years of healthcare experience.
