JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, performs clinical testing in the following laboratory areas: blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, and microbiology. Obtains or receives specimens, performs laboratory tests according to written procedures. Understands methods and principles, performs and evaluates quality control on a daily basis. The technologist performs preventive maintenance on instrumentation and interprets results as to their accuracy, acceptability and critical limits and informs the physician/nurse of critical values. The technologist works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines and records all data obtained. The technologist is also responsible for MLT and Lab Assistant personnel in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
